Privacy

Salience is designed to analyse photographs, not to collect them.

This page explains what happens when you upload an image, what data is temporarily kept in memory, and what is not stored.

1. What Salience does

When you upload a photograph, Salience processes it to produce two visual outputs:

The uploaded image is used only to generate these analysis results.

2. Uploaded images

Images you upload are analysed on the server only for the purpose of generating the requested results.

Uploaded images are not intended to be stored as a permanent archive, dataset, or gallery. Salience does not use uploaded images for training models, resale, advertising, or any unrelated purpose.

3. Temporary in-memory processing

To make re-analysis faster when you adjust settings on the same image, Salience may temporarily keep the most recent uploaded image and its generated results in server memory for a short period after your request.

This temporary cache exists only to improve responsiveness for repeated analysis of the same image.

The cached data:

Under the current setup, this temporary in-memory cache may remain available for up to 10 minutes after your last request.

4. Permanent storage

Salience is designed so that uploaded images and generated results are not persisted as stored files for later retrieval.

In other words, your uploaded photograph is processed to create the requested analysis, but is not meant to be retained as permanent stored content.

5. Analytics, tracking, and cookies

Salience does not use analytics platforms, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising cookies.

The site is intended to remain simple and privacy-conscious.

To prevent automated abuse of the upload endpoint, Salience uses Cloudflare Turnstile — a privacy-focused CAPTCHA that runs a short browser check before each upload. Turnstile does not set tracking cookies and does not build user profiles. Cloudflare may observe your IP address as part of the challenge, which is standard for any CAPTCHA or CDN service.

6. Browser-local storage

The only data stored locally in your browser is your interface preference for theme selection, such as dark or light mode.

This preference is saved using your browser's local storage so the site can remember your chosen appearance on future visits from the same device and browser.

This local setting:

7. Research models

Salience uses vision-science models to generate attention analysis outputs. Uploaded images are analysed through this pipeline only to produce the requested heatmap and scanpath for the current user session or short-term re-analysis window described above.

Uploaded images are not used to retrain or fine-tune these models through normal use of the site.

8. Third parties

Salience does not intentionally share uploaded images with advertisers or marketing platforms.

If the service is hosted through infrastructure providers, network providers, or platform services required to operate the website, limited technical processing may occur as part of delivering the service. These providers act only as part of the technical operation of the site, not as advertising or profiling partners.

9. Data security

Reasonable effort is made to keep the service simple and privacy-conscious. However, no internet-based service can promise absolute security.

If you are working with highly sensitive or confidential images, you should use your own judgment before uploading them to any online service.

10. Changes to this page

This privacy notice may be updated if the way Salience operates changes.

If the service later adds features such as accounts, saved histories, analytics, or public galleries, this page should be updated to reflect that clearly.
